How to use the image compressor
Drag images onto the page or click the drop zone to pick files. Adjust the quality slider, choose an output format, and optionally cap the maximum dimension. The tool compresses each image and shows the size reduction. Click any image to download it individually, or download everything as a ZIP.
Nothing is uploaded. All processing runs in your browser using the Canvas API. The compressor works offline once the page has loaded.
How much can I compress an image?
Typical results:
| Setting | Typical savings | When to use |
|---|---|---|
| Quality 90% | 20–40% | Portfolios, print |
| Quality 75% | 40–60% | Websites, blogs |
| Quality 60% | 55–75% | Social media |
| Quality 40% | 70–85% | Thumbnails, previews |
| Quality 25% | 80–92% | Avatars, tiny icons |
WebP output typically saves 25–35% more than JPG at the same visual quality.
Choosing the right format
- JPG — best for photographs. Universal support. No transparency.
- PNG — lossless. Larger files. Use for graphics, logos, screenshots with sharp edges.
- WebP — modern. Smaller than both JPG and PNG at equivalent quality. Supported by all modern browsers.
What is EXIF data?
Many photos carry hidden metadata: camera model, GPS coordinates, date taken, and more. When you post a photo online, this data can leak your location. The compressor strips EXIF by default — a small but important privacy step.
Why compress images?
- Faster websites — image weight is usually the biggest factor in page load time.
- Better SEO — Google ranks fast pages higher.
- Lower bandwidth — useful when you're on a metered connection.
- Fits upload limits — email attachments, WhatsApp, forms that cap at 5 MB.
- Smaller backups — a photo library can shrink by 60%+.
Common questions
Is this image compressor free?
Yes. It is completely free, has no file size limit and runs entirely in your browser.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Everything happens on your device. Your images never leave your computer or phone.
What image formats are supported?
JPG, PNG, WebP and BMP. You can compress any of these and optionally convert between them.
How much can I compress an image?
Typically 40 to 80 percent size reduction with minimal visible quality loss. The exact amount depends on the original image and the quality level you choose.
Does compressing reduce image quality?
Yes, in a technical sense — but at quality 75 or above, the difference is usually invisible to the human eye. Only go below 60 if you need the smallest possible file.
Can I compress multiple images at once?
Yes. Drop as many images as you like. Each is compressed independently. Download them all in one ZIP.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. It works in all modern mobile browsers — Safari on iOS, Chrome on Android. You can take a photo and compress it right on the phone.
Is there a file size limit?
No hard limit, but very large files (50 MB+) may be slow on low-end devices because the whole processing happens in memory.
